Are you a cracked pot?
Hiya,
Today I would like to share a story with you that comes from an old Chinese proverb…
“An elderly Chinese woman had 2 large pots that were hung on the ends of a yoke, that she carried across her neck down to the stream to collect her water.
One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of a long walk from the stream to the house the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily and the woman arrived home with only one and a half pots of water. The perfect pot was very proud of its accomplishments, but the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection and miserable that it could only deliver half of what it had been made to do.
It had been 2 long years of what the cracked pot perceived to be a bitter failure and one day down by the stream the cracked pot spoke to the woman.
“Woman, I am ashamed of myself because of the crack in my side, it causes the water to leak out all the way back to the house”
The old woman smiled gently and said “Yes I know, dear pot, but did you not also notice that along the path all the way back to the house, there are beautiful flowers, but only on your side of the path.”
She continued
“I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds along your side of the path and every day while we walk home, you water them for me and for the past 2 years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my table”
“So, without you being just the way you are I would not have these beautiful blooms to grace my home, which brings me much happiness and joy”
Each of us have our own unique flaws and faults. But it is the cracks and flaws in each of us that make our lives so very interesting and rewarding.
We’ve just got to take each person for what they are and look for the “good” in them.
We cannot change anyone into what we want them to be, but we can find their unique qualities if we look more closely, and it is those qualities that will enrich and enhance our lives.
So to all my “Crack-pot” friends out there (and goodness knows there are many of us)
Have a Great Day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path.
Love Lee
